What Is Trade/Craft?

The team behind Trade/Craft have been active in the entertainment industry for more than 30 years, working in every aspect of filmmaking from development to production, post and delivery, on features, television and commercials.

The one glaring flaw in the industry that continues to appear is that there are many jobs in film production and post that have no traditional schooling. Typically, you learn that craft on the job, if you are lucky enough to find the right mentor, the right path or the right opportunity.

Similarly, there are many other areas of the industry that have no traditional training. No one seems to know how to actually develop an independent film, or manage visual effects onset, or supervise post-production. The list of jobs that there are no easy ways to learn continues to grow. That’s why we invented Trade/Craft.

The idea is simple: Put together instructors who are not only experts in their field, but are also working practitioners of their craft, and help them develop an intensive single class for you, so you can learn what they know. These are not introductory courses. These are the real thing, providing not just theory but practical knowledge of a craft or skill that typically took luck, years of opportunity or the expense of a film school degree to (hopefully) learn.

Don’t get us wrong, there’s still a lot of focus and dedication required on your part. Nothing is easy in this industry, and even with the skill set you will gain from the courses at Trade/Craft you will need to muster the dedication and focus to follow through. Trade/Craft can give you the training and knowledge, but you have to provide the passion.

Classes you take at Trade/Craft will not only give you the boost you need to enter a new career, they will also give you the practical tools necessary to actually perform the job. You’ll enter your new field with a solid understanding and clear goals to shine.

So what are you waiting for? This is your best chance to do something special.

Welcome to Trade/Craft.
